Sports Medicine

The sports medicine team at Schuylkill Rehabilitation Center consists of Physicians, Certified Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists. They work closely with one another to rehabilitate the sports related injuries of our active community.

Whether you’re a professional athlete or a weekend enthusiast, the ATC can help keep you performing at your best. Certified athletic trainers hold a bachelor’s degree and are licensed. To earn the ATC credential, candidates also must pass an extensive three-part test. Once certification is earned, it must be maintained through yearly continuing education requirements. In 1990, the AMA recognized athletic training as an allied health profession, and in 1998, the AMA called for certified athletic trainers in all high schools, signaling further confidence in ATCs.

Schuylkill Rehabilitation Center’s large staff of Athletic Trainers are all certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and licensed by the state of Pennsylvania. They work at local high schools through individualized contracts providing athletic training services during practices and/or games. They care for the all athletes through prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Our athletic trainers are also a valuable link between the playing field and the clinic in the communication process with the rest of the sports medicine team and in assessing their athletic performance.

Our team also provides education programs through out the year for parents and coaching staffs at all sporting levels to learn more about athletic injuries. Topics have included recognition and basic first-aid for sports related injuries, taping techniques, stretching programs and safety concerns of athletes, such as heat illness and dehydration.
